Sayre Athletics

"You Can Do It Here!"

Sayre School offers ten interscholastic sports to all male and female students in grades nine through twelve. As members of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), Sayre School's athletic teams compete against teams in all size classifications in the state of Kentucky. In addition, as a member of the Bluegrass Conference, Sayre School competes in Class A tournaments against schools of comparable size. We encourage all student athletes to achieve academic excellence, practice good sportsmanship, and maintain high standards while participating in sports.

Bill Hill, Athletic Director

Bill Hill came to Sayre after coaching, teaching, and administrating in the Woodford County school system for 28 years. While at Woodford County High School, Coach Hill coached both girls' and boys' basketball as well as boys' golf. He was the athletic director there for 10 years.

The 2009-2010 school year marks Coach Hill's eleventh year as Sayre School's Athletic Director. He has been the boys' golf coach for his entire tenure at Sayre and spent 4 years coaching the girls' basketball team. While at Sayre, Coach Hill was the 2006 State Athletics Director of the Year selected by the KY High School Athletics Directors Association as well as the 2007 State Athletics Director of the Year selected by the KY High School Coaches Association. Coach Hill was inducted into both Kentucky's High School Basketball Coaches and Union College's Athletic Halls of Fame.

Sayre's Athletic Program is led by a group of talented and experienced coaches, committed to teaching and the overall development of students. While our location and district places us in a league consisting mostly of larger public schools, Sayre remains competitive in the region because it develops smart athletes and strong teams. Sayre's open participation policy ensures that any student can be a part of a team as long as she/he is willing to follow team rules regarding attendance, attitude, and personal behavior.

The Sayre Athletic Fields are located on a 50 acre site 20 minutes from the main campus, and include four soccer and lacrosse fields, baseball and softball fields, as well as 10 tennis courts and outdoor recreational spaces. Click here for directions to the Sayre Athletic fields.

The athletic program begins in the Lower School with an intramural winter basketball league for boys and girls in second through fifth grade. Middle school boys and girls can participate on soccer and basketball teams and cheerleading. Middle school students can be eligible to participate on the junior varsity or varsity level of upper school sports, including golf, swimming, baseball, softball, tennis, track, and lacrosse. The Upper School athletic program has three seasons. Fall sports are men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf. Winter sports include men's and women's swimming, men's and women's basketball, and cheerleading. Spring sports include men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, men's and women's track, and lacrosse.
