Headmaster's Welcome
Clayton G. Chambliss speaks on Sayre's Core Values and Character Development.
I am glad you have come to our website to learn about Sayre. I hope that in browsing its various sections, you will gain a true sense of who we are and the unique experience this school provides for kids.
We have long held the belief that we best equip students for further education and fruitful adulthoods by providing, supporting, and teaching with today’s current technology tools. To that end, wireless internet access is campus wide, lower and middle schools provide teachers with portable laptop labs, and all upper schoolers own and use laptops in daily classes. Interactive white boards are mounted in most of our classrooms, and teachers present materials in a variety of ways to meet the range of learning affinities students bring to the classroom.
Education is an exciting and dynamic undertaking, one that requires us all to study and respond to research that tells us new things about the variety of ways kids learn. I am proud to work at a school where so many teachers draw upon professional development funding to keep current and provide students with new ways to engage with material. Our academic program is hands-on, one that demands participation.
We believe in a vital urban community, and continue to witness the many ways our downtown location enriches Sayre's programming. Service and volunteering opportunities for students are abundant, and Sayre is increasingly able to offer assistance and facilities for neighborhood and community gatherings and special events.
Work at our new athletic complex is ongoing. Thanks to the generous giving of countless friends and families, however, our fall and spring athletes and their families--such great sports boosters-- are finally living and enjoying these beautiful fields. This is an exciting development and a tremendous boost for Sayre's already outstanding athletic program. The website provides directions and photography if you’d like to see just how much has happened out there.
If you are in driving range of Sayre, there is nothing to match a visit. Our neighborhood is quaint, with nice restaurants and coffeehouses, and we have done much to make this campus beautiful and secure. Please also feel free to call the school, even if it is to ask questions already answered on the website only because you want to hear a voice. I can say with confidence that anyone who answers the phone will be pleased to talk with you.
